  • Terrariums are best positioned in bright natural light, out of direct sun where possible as this can cause fluctuations in the air temperature within the vessel, and also potentially scorch the plants and moss.

Some early morning or late evening direct sunlight shouldn’t cause any harm.

  • Keep an eye on your terrarium and how it is acting. Generally minimal to no watering is needed. If the lid is on correctly, all moisture should stay within the system. If it does begin to dry, avoid pouring water in and instead use a misting bottle and add just enough water to dampen the soil.

If your terrarium is forming significant amounts of water droplets on the inside of the glass, obscuring the plants then it can be could to remove the lid for a few hours to allow excess moisture to escape.

  • The humidity within the vessel is regulated through the use of the lid. As mentioned in the watering section, if there is significant condensation the lid can be removed to allow excess moisture out of the system.

Too much moisture can cause leaves of certain plants to die back, it also increases the likelihood of mould growth.

  • If your terrarium starts to become a little overgrown, it is important to prune the plants back appropriately to avoid overcrowding in the vessel.

Mould is not uncommon in terrariums, but if ever noticed carefully remove it and continue to observe over the following days.

Other fungus such can also be fairly common and is often harmless in the closed ecosystem, but can be removed based on preference.
